Afghanistan’s Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 campaign ended in disappointment after they were knocked out following a six-wicket loss to Sri Lanka. The defeat was further overshadowed by disciplinary actions against spinners Noor Ahmad and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who were reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the match in Abu Dhabi.
**Code Violations**
Noor Ahmad was found guilty of violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which pertains to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.” This occurred in the 16th over of Sri Lanka’s innings when an umpire called one of Noor’s deliveries a wide ball, and he showed visible displeasure at the decision.
Meanwhile, Mujeeb Ur Rahman breached Article 2.2 related to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing” after he broke the stumps with his towel during the match.
**Sanction Details**
The charges were brought forward by on-field umpires Asif Yaqoob and Virender Sharma, third umpire Faisal Afridi, and fourth umpire Rohan Pandit. The disciplinary proceedings were overseen by Richie Richardson from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.
Both Noor and Mujeeb accepted their offenses and the resulting sanctions, which included a formal reprimand alongside one demerit point each.
**Record Implications**
A formal reprimand is the standard penalty for Level 1 offenses under the ICC Code, which can also include fines up to 50% of a player’s match fee and the assignment of one or two demerit points. In this case, Noor and Mujeeb each received a reprimand and one demerit point.
According to ICC regulations, accumulating four or more demerit points within a 24-month period converts these into suspension points, potentially leading to automatic bans from future matches.

This disciplinary action serves as a reminder to players about maintaining professionalism and respect for umpiring decisions during international matches. Afghanistan will now look to regroup after a challenging Asia Cup campaign.
