Afghanistan’s Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 campaign ended in disappointment as they were knocked out following a six-wicket loss to Sri Lanka. The defeat was further overshadowed by disciplinary actions against spinners Noor Ahmad and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who were both reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during their match against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi.
### Code Violations
Noor Ahmad was found guilty of violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which pertains to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.” This came after he displayed his displeasure during the 16th over of Sri Lanka’s innings when an umpire called one of his deliveries a wide ball.
Meanwhile, Mujeeb Ur Rahman breached Article 2.2 for “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing” after breaking the stumps with his towel during the match, an action deemed in violation of the code.
### Sanction Details
The charges against Noor and Mujeeb were brought forward by on-field umpires Asif Yaqoob and Virender Sharma, third umpire Faisal Afridi, and fourth umpire Rohan Pandit. The disciplinary process was supervised by Richie Richardson from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.
Both players accepted their offenses and the resulting sanctions, which included a formal reprimand and one demerit point each.
### Implications for the Players
A formal reprimand is the standard penalty for Level 1 offenses and may also involve fines up to 50% of a player’s match fee along with one or two demerit points. In this instance, Noor and Mujeeb each received a reprimand and one demerit point.
According to ICC regulations, if a player accrues four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, these points are converted into suspension points, leading to an automatic ban. Both players will need to maintain discipline to avoid further penalties in the future.

Afghanistan will look to regroup and move forward after this setback, hoping to come back stronger in upcoming matches.
