Eastern Conference Preview: 2025-26 NBA Season
Heading into the 2025-26 NBA season, the Eastern Conference is generally regarded as the weaker of the two conferences. Despite this perception, the East shines with plenty of intrigue following a busy offseason. Various factors have set the stage for a landscape that will look very different from what fans have grown accustomed to in recent years.
Teams like the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers, previously top contenders, are likely to see a dip in the standings. Extended injuries to key players like Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton could significantly impact their performance. Meanwhile, many other franchises have made upgrades, aiming to climb the ranks and challenge the status quo.
Notably, the Orlando Magic made a splash by acquiring Desmond Bane from the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Atlanta Hawks added former All-Star and NBA champion Kristaps Porzingis to their roster. With the season just about a month away, let’s take a closer look at the projected Eastern Conference standings.
Eastern Conference Seeding Predictions: 2025-26 NBA Season
10) Toronto Raptors
The Raptors narrowly sneak into the play-in tournament at No. 10. After acquiring Brandon Ingram last season—though he never debuted due to injury—Toronto is poised for improvement. A healthy Ingram paired with Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, and RJ Barrett could make the Raptors a more competitive squad in 2026.
9) Indiana Pacers
Following a strong finals run, the Pacers are expected to take a steep decline this year, mainly due to Haliburton being out for the season. Nevertheless, Indiana’s mix of veterans and young talent will likely keep them afloat and in contention for a play-in spot, although they won’t be serious title contenders.
8) Miami Heat
The Heat enter the season with some injury concerns, including Tyler Herro missing the start of the season. Despite this, Miami remains a playoff threat. Bam Adebayo steps into the leadership role following Jimmy Butler’s departure, supported by Herro, Andrew Wiggins, and Norman Powell. They possess the firepower to be a dark horse in the East.
7) Philadelphia 76ers
The Sixers are one of the toughest teams to evaluate due to their injury troubles last year. Led by Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George, Philadelphia still boasts one of the league’s top trios. Their success this season will largely depend on the health and consistency of these key players.
6) Milwaukee Bucks
Milwaukee underwent significant changes during the offseason, sparking much discussion around the league. With Giannis Antetokounmpo still at the peak of his powers, the Bucks should remain competitive. However, the supporting cast must exceed expectations to avoid another early playoff exit.
5) Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks have the potential to make a substantial leap forward this season. They’ve upgraded multiple areas of their roster, including the return of forward Jalen Johnson to full health. Since reaching the conference finals in 2021, Trae Young and company are eager to return to that level, and their improved depth could make that possible.
4) Detroit Pistons
Coming in at No. 4 are the Detroit Pistons, one of last season’s biggest success stories. Led by All-NBA talent Cade Cunningham, Detroit looks ready to climb several spots in a weakened Eastern Conference. While the offseason didn’t bring major upgrades, the addition of veterans complements a young and promising core that includes Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson, and Jalen Duren.
3) Orlando Magic
The Magic are expected to make a massive jump this season, bolstered by the acquisition of Desmond Bane, who provides a strong third scoring option. Anchored by forwards Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, Orlando is positioned to be one of the top teams in the East in 2026.
2) New York Knicks
Fresh off their first conference finals appearance in over 20 years, the Knicks are primed to make a championship run. Additional roster upgrades, including the additions of Guerschon Yabusele and Jordan Clarkson, have made New York deeper and more versatile. If Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns continue to play at an All-NBA level, the Knicks could enjoy another successful campaign.
1) Cleveland Cavaliers
Though postseason success has eluded them recently, the Cleveland Cavaliers have proven to be an elite regular-season team. Securing the No. 1 spot in our rankings, the Cavs saw some offseason roster changes but added key pieces to fill gaps. Led by Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen, Cleveland has the talent to finish atop the Eastern Conference once again.
With the shifting dynamics in the East, the 2025-26 NBA season promises excitement, surprises, and plenty of battles for playoff positioning. Keep an eye on emerging stars, injury recoveries, and midseason adjustments that could further shake up this evolving conference.
