Police have identified the suspect involved in a recent chain collision as Tomohiro Imakita, a 33-year-old part-time worker from Eniwa City. Authorities allege that Imakita caused the accident by driving recklessly and crashing into multiple cars near the Hana Road Eniwa roadside rest area.
After the collision, Imakita abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. He managed to escape approximately three kilometers from the crash site before entering the premises of a nearby factory. Security camera footage later captured Imakita running through the factory grounds, with several police officers in pursuit.
About 30 seconds after being cornered, Imakita was subdued and arrested on the spot for trespassing. The pursuit and arrest took place roughly two and a half hours after the initial collision. Footage shows officers tackling the suspect from behind to apprehend him.
Police suspect that Imakita’s erratic driving was responsible for initiating the accident. During questioning, investigators reported that Imakita has remained silent. The incident remains under investigation as authorities gather more details.
