**Why Does My Mind Not Cooperate During Meditation?**
*Question:* Whenever I sit for meditation, my mind doesn’t cooperate. Why does this happen?
**Sadhguru:**
The mind does not like meditation because when you keep the body still, the mind naturally wants to remain active. This is why so much emphasis in yoga is placed on asanas (postures). If you learn how to keep your body absolutely still, your mind will also begin to become still.
Observe yourself carefully and notice how many unnecessary movements your body makes when you stand, sit, or speak. If you look closely at your life, you will see that more than half your time is spent doing things you don’t even care for.
When you keep the body still, your mind will slowly start to collapse or quiet down. The mind resists this because it knows it will become enslaved if it allows itself to become still.
The main aspect of meditation is this: right now, your mind is the boss, and you are its slave. But as you meditate and become more meditative, you will become the boss, and your mind will become the slave — and that is how it should be.
As a slave, the mind is wonderful — it is a miraculous slave. But as a master, if you allow the mind to rule, it is a terrible master. If you don’t know how to keep the mind as a slave, it will put you through endless suffering.

**Can Spiritual People Solve Political and Social Problems?**
*Question:* Can spiritual people solve political and social problems?
**Sadhguru:**
A spiritual person is someone who has looked at life with more clarity than most people. He or she can see more about life and human nature than others can. When such a person applies themselves to any situation, they perceive it more clearly and thus can be a solution.
Does clarity clear up problems? Definitely. Someone evolved on the spiritual path can be a great solution for societal problems.
This is why many masters have historically tried to influence kings and leaders, and often lived in the king’s court—not out of greed, but because they believed that clarity should be utilized for the greater good.
For example, after his Enlightenment, when King Janaka wished to follow his Guru Ashtavakra to the ashram, his Guru said, “No. This is not about your convenience. The people need an Enlightened king. You must go back and be a king.”
People undeniably need an enlightened approach to solving societal problems because we have been suffering from the same issues for too long. We are not looking at them with necessary clarity and thus continue making the same mistakes generation after generation, merely causing more significant problems each time.
In essence, a spiritual person means someone who has a deeper clarity about how the human mind, body, and life itself work. Such a person can be invaluable to society, whether in political, economic, or any other spheres, if society chooses to make use of their wisdom.

**How Does a Person Find Their Guru?**
*Question:* Like many around me, I am seeking the ultimate Truth and the right guidance to experience it. Sadhguru, can you tell us how a person finds their Guru?
**Sadhguru:**
If you are a true seeker of the Truth, Truth cannot hide from you. You have happened in the lap of Truth itself.
But many who claim to be seekers are actually only seeking security, solace, or the fulfillment of their desires. Their lives are expressions of greed and fear rather than genuine seeking.
Consider this: many people shamelessly claim to be God-fearing. However, they are not God-loving. Fear is not love.
How can you love the one who created the world if you have not fallen in love with the creation itself? As Jesus said, “Love thy neighbour.” Everyone can claim to love God, who demands nothing from you, but loving the person next to you right now is a true challenge — it takes courage. “Love thy neighbour” helps break the illusion of loving a distant, heavenly figure.
A genuine seeker, someone with a real yearning, will always find their Guru. The Guru may appear as a man, a woman, or even something as simple as a rock. There is no doubt about this.
When any being truly calls or yearns, existence answers. If the thirst within you is strong enough, God always answers.
