Indian women’s team pacer Arundhati Reddy recently shared a terrifying experience she went through during India’s first warm-up match against England on September 25, ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup.

### The Incident

The injury occurred when Reddy instinctively went for a return catch from England’s Heather Knight while following through. She lost her balance and fell awkwardly on her left leg, collapsing on the field. The fall prompted immediate medical attention as she struggled to bear weight on her injured leg.

### Injury Details and Initial Concerns

Following the fall, Reddy was unable to stand and had to be taken off the field in a wheelchair. The seriousness of the incident raised doubts about her participation in the tournament. However, demonstrating remarkable resilience, she made a strong comeback in the subsequent match against New Zealand, where she claimed two wickets and played a key role in India’s four-wicket (DLS) victory.

### Recovery and Support

After the New Zealand match at Bengaluru’s BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground, teammate Harleen Deol asked Reddy how she managed such a speedy recovery despite having been in a wheelchair just days before. Reddy responded:

“Initially, it was scary for me as well because at that time it was quite a big impact, so I was really scared to even get up. But I would really like to thank the medical staff and the team because they really did a good job.”

### Looking Ahead: India’s World Cup Campaign

India is set to begin their ICC Women’s World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on September 30 at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. Although India has hosted the Women’s Cricket World Cup three times—in 1978, 1997, and 2013—the team has yet to win the tournament. Their best home performance was reaching the semifinals in 1997, where they lost to Australia in New Delhi.

With Reddy’s inspiring recovery and the team in strong form, India will look to make a significant impact in this year’s World Cup.
