Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inspired by his own nationwide podcast *Mann Ki Baat*, has written the foreword for the Indian edition of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s autobiography, *I Am Giorgia: My Roots, My Principles* (Rupa Publications). Describing the book as Meloni’s own *Mann Ki Baat*, PM Modi expressed this as an expression of respect, friendship, and admiration.
Calling it a great honour to contribute to the volume, the Indian Prime Minister praised Meloni as a patriot and an outstanding contemporary leader. He wrote that Prime Minister Meloni’s life and leadership embody timeless truths and that the book will be well received in India as a refreshing story of an exceptional political figure.
Highlighting her leadership values, PM Modi emphasized how Meloni’s belief in safeguarding political and cultural heritage, even while engaging globally on various issues, resonates deeply with Indian values and culture. Reflecting on his interactions with global leaders over the past 11 years, Modi noted that each leader’s journey transcends personal stories and speaks to something larger—a sentiment he finds echoed in Meloni’s memoir.
Meloni’s autobiography was first published in 2021 when she was still an opposition leader. Her prominence soared after becoming Italy’s first woman Prime Minister in 2022. The U.S. edition of her memoir was released in June 2025, featuring a foreword by Donald Trump Jr., who praised Meloni’s working-class roots and described her rise as a “patriotic tidal wave.”
Already a bestseller in Italy and parts of Europe, *I Am Giorgia* highlights Meloni’s inspiring journey. The challenges and sometimes trauma of womanhood have been a recurring theme in her pre-election speeches. Her rallying cry—“I am Giorgia, I am a woman, I am Italian, and I am Christian. You can’t take that away from me”—speaks to her resilience and identity.
Meloni’s memoir is written with compassion and candidly shares the campaign run against her on the basis of her being a woman and an unmarried mother. She never shied away from political activity, even during her pregnancy, underscoring her strength and determination.
Although the Indian edition of *I Am Giorgia* is not yet available in India, it is expected to attract significant attention for both Meloni’s personal story and the symbolic friendship between the two leaders.
