**Mumbai: BMC Receives Nine Bids for Exotic Bird Park Development at Nahur**
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received bids from nine firms across the country for the development of an exotic bird park at Nahur. Estimated to cost Rs 166 crore, this ambitious project aims to create a vibrant recreational hub for Mumbai’s citizens.
**Proposal and Approval Process**
The bird park proposal was initiated last year, with two submissions sent to the Central Zoo Authority seeking approval for bird acquisition and layout plans. Despite facing controversy over cost escalations, the BMC has denied any wrongdoing.
Undeterred by concerns, the civic body moved forward and invited tenders for the bird park last month. A recent pre-bid meeting was held with prospective bidders, where several queries—primarily regarding bank guarantee requirements and operational Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs)—were addressed by civic officials.
The contract for the project is expected to be finalized by November.
**Construction and Maintenance Details**
According to a civic official, the selected contractor will be responsible not only for constructing the bird park but also for maintaining it for a period of two years.
The park will showcase a variety of exotic bird species such as sun conures, golden conures, eclectus parrots, African grey parrots, ostriches, toco toucans, and black swans.
“Enclosures will be constructed using stainless steel tensile wire mesh to replicate natural habitats while ensuring the safety of the birds. Dedicated holding areas featuring artificial water bodies and habitat replicas will be created for pelicans, ducks, cranes, and ostriches,” the official added.
**Facilities and Attractions Planned**
The facility is set to include a range of visitor amenities such as a seating area, an amphitheatre, a knowledge centre, walkways, and a restaurant.
The knowledge centre will feature artificial rockwork and cultural-themed displays, enhancing educational value for visitors.
Additionally, an artificial waterfall will be constructed within the park, alongside a hospital and a dedicated quarantine facility to ensure proper care for the birds.
The project will also comprise an underground parking space accommodating 60 cars.
