The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has finalized its seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] will each contest 101 seats in the 243-member Bihar Legislative Assembly.
The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), led by Union Minister Chirag Paswan, is set to field candidates on 29 seats. Additionally, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), led by Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) will contest six seats each.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the final seat-sharing arrangement via social media platform X, describing the negotiations as conducted in a “cordial manner,” with all NDA partners expressing satisfaction with the outcome.
This seat-sharing formula indicates a shift in the alliance’s power dynamics. In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, JD(U) contested 115 seats while BJP contested 110 seats, with the LJP fighting independently. This time, JD(U) will contest an equal number of seats as BJP for the first time.
Meanwhile, the opposition Mahagathbandhan alliance is also nearing the finalization of its seat-sharing arrangement. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh stated that the alliance expects to finalize and announce all seat distributions within the next two to three days, addressing the delay in their announcement.
The Bihar Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11.
