Fiji Sugar Corporation chairperson Nitya Reddy has strongly criticized political rivals who continue to make misinformed commentary about the sugar industry.
Speaking at an industry event in Lautoka last week, Mr. Reddy expressed his readiness to reveal the truth about these “politically motivated opportunists.”
“Regrettably, there are still politically motivated opportunists in this country, many of whom have not even set foot properly on a cane farm. They masquerade as self-appointed demigods, claiming to champion your interests while pursuing their personal agendas and trying to revive their largely perishing political shelf life,” said Mr. Reddy.
He added that these individuals seek to question the relevance of the sugar industry and undermine the contributions it makes to the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people across the country.
“We will not allow any more misleading commentary from these individuals,” Mr. Reddy emphasized. “Let me be clear to them: you are merely a dispensable political burden, carried on the shoulders they want to run on.”
According to Mr. Reddy, their objective is to weaponize the vision for the sugar industry and destabilize it. “The noise we hear daily from them through social media and news outlets has nothing to do with promoting your welfare. It is a desperate attempt at political restoration.”
He concluded with a warning: “Let me remind these people that we will not hesitate to tell the truth about them and their history if they continue to peddle lies and mislead you, us, and the broader contributions being made to the sugar industry.”
