Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, has been handed a one-match touchline ban and fined £8,000 by the Football Association (FA). The punishment follows his exuberant celebrations during Chelsea’s thrilling 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Matchday 7 of the Premier League 2025-26 season.
### The Incident
Maresca’s wild celebrations after Chelsea’s last-minute winner did not go down well with referee Anthony Taylor, who issued him a second yellow card and sent him to the stands. The FA stated that Maresca behaved inappropriately and/or used abusive or insulting words or behavior during the match.
Maresca has accepted the charge and agreed to the standard penalty, meaning he will miss Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
### Details of the Ban
Under FA regulations, a suspended manager is still allowed to communicate with coaching staff and may enter the dressing room before kick-off, at half-time, and after full-time. This marks Maresca’s second touchline ban as Chelsea manager; he previously received a ban in April 2025 for accumulating a third yellow card of the season during celebrations following Pedro Neto’s last-minute winner at Fulham.

Following the Liverpool game, Maresca took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the dramatic win. He said, “Winning at the last moment was a beautiful joy for all of us.” He added, “It was a shame not to be present at the final whistle to celebrate with our wonderful fans.
