ShackStream: The Messenger on The Stevetendo Show! Episode 636

Tonight on The Stevetendo Show, we’re diving back into our playthrough of *The Messenger*. This game feels like a blend of old-school platforming classics such as *Ninja Gaiden* combined with Metroidvania elements, creating a fresh yet nostalgic experience.

This is my first time playing *The Messenger*, and so far, I’ve really enjoyed it. One of the gameplay mechanics I particularly appreciate is the ability to switch between 8-bit and 16-bit graphics, which adds an interesting dynamic to the game’s aesthetic. However, one issue I’ve encountered is the inability to attack in an upward direction, which can be a bit frustrating at times.

In the last episode, we found more music notes needed to unlock the music box inside the Tower of Time. Tracking down these keys has proven to be quite challenging, but thankfully we can save up our in-game currency and pay for hints to reveal their locations. It feels like we’re getting close to finishing *The Messenger*, though I’ve been wrong about that in previous playthroughs!

Set to go live at 5 p.m. PDT / 8 p.m. EDT, join The Stevetendo Show for more adventures in *The Messenger*. Shackers who want to join in on the fun can head over to the Shacknews Twitch channel, where you can catch The Stevetendo Show every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

If you can’t make tonight’s stream, don’t worry! You can watch Monday nights at 6 p.m. PDT / 9 p.m. EDT. Monday will be a Shacker’s Choice night, where I’ll be playing *Crow Country* for the very first time. Our *Donkey Kong Bananza* playthrough will also continue next week, and the action is heating up—you won’t want to miss it.

Be sure to check out both the Shacknews Twitch channel and the Shacknews VODs YouTube channel. Catch up on your favorite Shacknews programs by subscribing to the YouTube channel and following the Twitch channel.

If you haven’t heard, Shacknews now offers a service called Shackmaps. Our dedicated staff has gone through some of your favorite video games to help you avoid getting lost, making your gaming experience even better.

Also, keep an eye out for scary games on Monday nights throughout October. After that, *Super Mario Galaxy 2* will take over the Monday night slot, replacing *Mario Kart Monday* with *Super Mario Monday*.

Since we’re almost done with *Donkey Kong Bananza* and *The Messenger*, expect some new playthroughs to start soon on The Stevetendo Show. If we finish *The Messenger* this evening, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the game as well as what might replace it in the lineup.

Keep sending in your game suggestions for The Stevetendo Show! If a title is on the Nintendo Switch 2 or the Nintendo Switch 2 Online service, it might get a starring role in an upcoming episode. You never know when Nintendo will add something new to the online service, so stay tuned!
