Titans quarterback Cam Ward has experienced his second head coaching change in his brief NFL career this week. The team fired Brian Callahan and brought in Mike McCoy as the new head coach. Despite the shakeup, Ward said on Wednesday that the transition won’t create much upheaval for him.
Ward expressed empathy for Callahan, acknowledging, “I feel for him because of what he has done for me to get to this point.” However, he also shared that he has developed a good relationship with McCoy since the pre-draft process. Ward believes that McCoy’s experience with other top quarterbacks will be beneficial for him throughout the remainder of his rookie season.
“I am going to support whatever decision we make, and the guys in the locker room are going to support it,” Ward said. “At the end of the day, with coach or without coach, we are trying to win football games and that is the same message coach Mike is preaching. We just have to live by it and stay true to it.”
While there is a chance McCoy could be named the permanent head coach, the upcoming offseason might bring a third head coach for Ward to work with. Ensuring that his development stays on track amid these changes will be a top priority for the Titans moving forward.
