Five dead, two missing as Tropical Storm Fengshen soaks Philippines

At least five people have been killed and two others reported missing as Tropical Storm Fengshen sweeps through the Philippines. The storm has triggered heavy flooding on the main island of Luzon and caused a vast landslide on the southern island of Mindanao.

In Quezon province, located in the northern part of the country, a tragic incident occurred early on Sunday. Five members of one family, including two children, were crushed to death when a tree fell on their bamboo house. This happened in the town of Pitogo, according to officials from the Philippine disaster agency.

Images posted on social media by local officials showed the house completely destroyed under the weight of a large palm tree. Rescue teams have been working to remove the bodies of the family members from the wreckage.

According to a statement shared on social media, a teenage boy was the lone survivor of the accident in Pitogo, which is about 153 km (95 miles) southeast of Manila, the capital city.

Meanwhile, raging floodwater has inundated several areas of Calbayog City in Samar as a result of Tropical Storm Ramil (also referred to as Fengshen) as of Sunday, October [date not specified]. The continued impact of the storm has left communities struggling with severe flooding and disruptions across the region.
