Dealing damage to laser-designated enemy vehicles can be either one of the simplest or most infuriating challenges in Battlefield 6. The window to deal damage is small, vehicles can pop flares or smoke, and you’re reliant on teammates from the start. I’ve suffered through it to give you some tips on making the process easier.
## How to Complete the Engineer 3 Challenge in Battlefield 6
The Engineer 3 challenge in Battlefield 6 asks you to deal 2,000 damage to laser-designated vehicles. It does not specify that they need to be airborne, only that they be painted.
Now, you cannot paint vehicles as an Engineer. Painted targets will have a yellow square on your HUD with the “Painted” marker. You can see this HUD element through walls, but you need line of sight to actually target the enemy vehicle.
While you can technically target tanks, I found doing so wildly inconsistent, as you need to be close enough for the missile to hit but not so close that it doesn’t have time to arm. I’d recommend sticking to helicopters first and foremost if you want to “speedrun” this challenge.
Be sure to bring a friend who can play Recon and do some guaranteed designating for you. Don’t be like me and try to rely on random teammates. Have your friend post up on an elevated position with good vision of the skies.
From there, grab your SLM-93A or MBT-LAW and head into Conquest or, to a lesser extent, Escalation. I don’t recommend Rush or any of the more infantry-focused modes for a few reasons, but mostly because they can end way too quickly. Conquest is the best, as it’s almost always going to be a 20-minute match or so unless your team is getting absolutely stomped.
You’ll also want to be on Operation Firestorm, Mirak Valley, or Liberation Peak. You can get all 2,000 damage against laser-designated vehicles in a single match if you’re smart about how and when you attack them.
Shoot about four seconds after the vehicle pops flares — they’ll also catch your missile if you fire too soon.
### Other Challenges You Might Encounter
– Painted vehicles can still pop smoke or flares to negate the lock-on.
– If you hit the vehicle after it loses the painted status, you may not get credit.
– More than half the maps in the game are horrible for this challenge.
– You’re fighting other Engineers and friendly vehicles for kills.
– Sometimes the rockets miss for different reasons, like a jet outflying it, the vehicle going behind cover, and so on.
– It’s very easy to run out of rockets.
Hitting air vehicles is by far your best bet, as each successful strike deals between 800-950 damage. If you manage to hit even a single painted tank, that means you’ll only need two good hits on jets or helicopters to complete the Engineer 3 challenge.
If it sounds simple, it’s not. There’s a lot working against you, but perseverance will pay off.
