Michael Kim defends The Sentry as PGA Tour drops Hawaii stop from 2026 schedule

Michael Kim Defends The Sentry After PGA Tour Cancels Hawaii Stop for 2026

Earlier this year, the PGA Tour announced that The Sentry tournament would no longer be held at the Kapalua Plantation Course in Hawaii due to water conservation issues on the island of Maui. As the men’s circuit searched for an alternative venue for the season opener, no suitable location could be found. Consequently, the PGA Tour recently declared that The Sentry tournament would be cancelled for 2026.

In response to this decision, Michael Kim shared his thoughts on X, writing: “Love Sentry, love Sony. Hope to play them for a really long time.” Prior to this, Kim expressed his disappointment about not getting the chance to play at The Sentry this year. He tweeted: “Was really looking forward to going back next yr. Hopefully the tour can find somewhere soon and on the west coast so I can also play Sony.”

Last Tournament Played in 2025 Season

Contrary to reports that his last PGA Tour event was the Baycurrent Classic—where he finished tied for 56th with a total score of 1 over par—Michael Kim’s most recent 2025 appearance was at the DP World India Championship held at the Delhi Golf Club.

Kim had a strong performance in India, finishing tied for 9th on the leaderboard with an impressive total score of 16 under par as of Sunday, October 19.

Round-by-Round Performance at the DP World India Championship:
– Round 1: 68 (three birdies on the front nine, two on the back nine)
– Round 2: 68 (three birdies on the front nine, three on the back nine)
– Round 3: 69 (two birdies on the front nine, two on the back nine)
– Round 4: 67 (three birdies on the front nine, four on the back nine)

Kim also took to X to share his experience visiting India for the tournament. He wrote:

“Thoughts from DP World India:

I had a little trepidation before coming to India but I honestly had a great time this week. The golf course was super unique, but played into my strengths and everyone treated us great. I can’t thank DP World enough for inviting me and hosting an awesome tournament.

Special shoutout to the Oberoi hotel. Easily top 5 hotels I’ve ever stayed at, mainly because of the staff. There’s a higher staff to guest ratio than anywhere I’ve been and every one of them treats you like a king.

Food was great. I never had the Delhi belly and there was lots of spice in the food which I loved.”

Additional DP World Tour Appearances in 2025

Besides the DP World India Championship, Michael Kim made two more appearances on the DP World Tour this year: the Spanish Open and the BMW PGA Championship. Unfortunately, he missed the cut in both events.

Michael Kim continues to express his passion for golf and looks forward to upcoming tournaments, hoping for a return to playing events like The Sentry and Sony Open in the near future.
