Watch Chargers’ Justin Herbert, Ladd McConkey team up for huge TD before TNF halftime

The Los Angeles Chargers were indeed all charged up against the Minnesota Vikings at a packed SoFi Stadium on “Thursday Night Football,” getting off to a fantastic start.

The Chargers found the end zone in the first quarter after quarterback Justin Herbert connected with tight end Oronde Gadsden II for an eight-yard touchdown. It was a foreshadowing of things to come.

Early in the second quarter, Los Angeles got on the board again when running back Kimani Vidal scored on a three-yard rush. Then, just seconds before the break, Herbert found Ladd McConkey for a 27-yard touchdown, sending the entire venue into a frenzy. The Chargers took a comfortable lead at halftime, 21-3.

It was McConkey’s third touchdown of the season, putting him on pace to surpass his total of seven from his rookie year. Drafted by the Chargers as the 34th overall pick last year, McConkey has quickly become an offensive threat.

Alongside McConkey, Oronde Gadsden — who was selected by the team in the fifth round this past April — exemplifies the Chargers’ thriving youth movement. At 27 years old, Herbert’s timeline fits well within this emerging core.

Herbert was clinical in the first half against the Vikings, completing 14 of 18 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns. He also contributed on the ground with five carries for 51 yards, showcasing his dual-threat capability.

The Chargers’ defense played a significant role as well, limiting Minnesota to just 93 total yards on 24 plays, including only 10 yards rushing. The Vikings also struggled with discipline, committing five penalties.

Currently holding a 4-3 record, the Chargers are eager to bounce back following their Week 7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, 38-24. With strong performances from both the offense and defense, Los Angeles looks poised to build momentum moving forward.
