### Timberwolves Post-Game Recap: Lakers 128, Timberwolves 110
Minnesota started strong, scoring 28 points in the first six minutes of Friday’s playoff rematch in Los Angeles to build an 11-point lead. History seemed poised to repeat from April — until it wasn’t.
The Timberwolves were outscored 111-82 over the remaining 42 minutes, resulting in a 128-110 loss and dropping their record to 1-1 for the young season.
**Where’s the Defense?**
The Timberwolves emphasized a return to elite defense all training camp, but early signs suggest the opposite. Wolves radio voice Alan Horton tweeted that Minnesota’s defensive rating Friday (139.6 points allowed per 100 possessions) was their second-worst defensive performance in 16 years.
This follows a season opener in Portland in which the Wolves played only about a quarter of quality defense. Early results indicate major defensive slippage could be coming this season.
**Luka Magic**
Without LeBron James, who is out with sciatica, the Lakers relied heavily on Luka Doncic. Doncic was the best player on the floor with 49 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists, dominating the Timberwolves’ defense regardless of who guarded him.
His smooth, efficient play cements his status as an MVP contender early in the season.
**Rotation Updates**
The Timberwolves’ top seven players are: Donte DiVincenzo, Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, Julius Randle, and Jaden McDaniels as starters, with Naz Reid and Terrence Shannon Jr. as primary reserves.
Mike Conley played limited minutes due to quick fouls and struggles against bigger opponents. Jaylen Clark and Bones Hyland saw more action in the second quarter. It remains unclear if Hyland has secured a spot in the top 10 rotation or is temporarily filling for Conley.
Rob Dillingham made his season debut in the fourth quarter but left early with a broken nose after a defensive battle in the paint. This injury typically does not cause long absences in the NBA.
**Edwards Scores**
Anthony Edwards was a bright spot, scoring 31 efficient points following his 41-point season opener in Portland. Although there were periods where his impact seemed limited, Edwards reached the 30-point mark again, indicating a strong potential run for the scoring title this season.
