Back in 2009, Robert Pattinson was one of the biggest heartthrobs on the planet. Unsurprisingly, he attracted some very passionate fans after his leading performance as Edward Cullen in the 2008 supernatural young adult romance *Twilight*. In an interview that year with the now-defunct Créme Magazine (reported by England’s Press Association and subsequently by Today), Pattinson revealed an unusual encounter with a fan while working on a project.
“I had a stalker while filming a movie in Spain last year,” Pattinson recalled. “She stood outside of my apartment every day for weeks, all day every day. I was so bored and lonely that I went out and had dinner with her.”
This probably sounds wonderful for the fan, but how did Pattinson convince her to stop showing up?
Apparently, it was simple. “I just complained about everything in my life and she never came back,” Pattinson continued. “People get bored of me in, like, two minutes.”
It’s worth noting that, as of this writing, Pattinson has been in a relationship with actress and musician Suki Waterhouse since 2018. They confirmed their engagement in 2023, and in the spring of 2024, the couple welcomed a daughter. So, not everyone gets bored of him that quickly after all.
Still, this is quite an unconventional and funny way to handle a stalker — especially one who was engaging in the objectively invasive act of standing outside your home at all hours. To be fair to Pattinson, the mania surrounding *Twilight* was intense.

Before *Twilight*, Robert Pattinson was best known for playing Cedric Diggory, the Hufflepuff and Hogwarts champion, in *Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire* (2005). Since Cedric’s death is a key climax in that film, Pattinson’s role was limited to that movie alone.
*Twilight* catapulted Pattinson into the spotlight. His character, Edward Cullen, is designed to be a swoonworthy romantic lead—the object of teenage girls’ affection worldwide—just like his love interest Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart.
The *Twilight Saga* spanned four movies, splitting the final book into two parts: *Breaking Dawn Part 1* and *Breaking Dawn Part 2*. Pattinson’s Edward is a brooding vampire who, despite being over a century old, physically stopped aging at 17. Essentially, he’s an eternal teenager when he meets the actual teenager Bella.
Despite Edward’s initial hesitation, the two fall in love and become a couple. He introduces Bella to his vampire family, who must constantly restrain themselves from harming her. After a brief separation in the second installment, *New Moon*, Edward and Bella eventually marry. They soon have a half-vampire, half-human baby, whose birth almost kills Bella.
The *Twilight* movies are a mixed bag—campy and fun, with both Stewart and Pattinson delivering serviceable performances. However, what Pattinson did afterward is truly impressive.

It’s astounding that Robert Pattinson, who went from a *Harry Potter* movie to a soapy young adult franchise, became one of Hollywood’s most audacious, ambitious, and in-demand actors. (The same goes for Kristen Stewart—good for both of them!)
After branching out with renowned director David Cronenberg in 2014’s *Maps to the Stars*, Pattinson worked with auteurs like the Safdie brothers on 2017’s *Good Time*, and Robert Eggers on 2019’s *The Lighthouse*, where he starred alongside Willem Dafoe in a gripping two-hander.
His biggest post-*Twilight* projects include the 2020 time-bending action thriller *Tenet*, directed by Christopher Nolan, and Matt Reeves’ 2022 reboot *The Batman*, where Pattinson took up the mantle of Gotham’s Caped Crusader.
Nevertheless, some of Pattinson’s most interesting roles remain his strangest. These include his bravura vocal performance in the English dub of Hayao Miyazaki’s personal film *The Boy and the Heron* (2024), his sinister Southern preacher role in *The Devil All the Time* (2020), and his layered performance in Bong Joon-ho’s 2025 *Parasite* follow-up *Mickey 17*.

Robert Pattinson may no longer be a teen heartthrob, but his quirky, offbeat impulses—like going on a date with a fan only to bore her—are very much alive. Fortunately for us, they continue to make his career all the more fascinating.
