Sam Leavitt has been in the spotlight for the Arizona State Sun Devils ahead of their Week 10 clash against Iowa State on Saturday. The ASU quarterback has been nursing a foot injury and is reportedly not expected to play against the Cyclones.
Leavitt was knocked out of ASU’s game against Houston on Saturday on two separate occasions. He took a hit once in the first half and then again in the fourth quarter. However, Leavitt did not return after his second knock and had a noticeable limp when he exited the field.
After the game, Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham addressed Leavitt’s injury, revealing it was likely a tweak of the same foot or ankle injury that forced him to sit out against Utah earlier this season.
“Sam got re-tweaked there at the end,” Dillingham said. “He got tweaked at the beginning and we sent him in to get some imaging. He wanted to go right back in, and I said, ‘No, you’re going to get imaging before you go back in, don’t care how you feel.’ Then he came back. Then at the end, he tweaked himself again, so we held him out.”
Jeff Sims replaced Leavitt when he left the field and is expected to get the start against Iowa State in Week 10.
### Sam Leavitt’s Season Stats
Sam Leavitt has looked solid for Arizona State this season. The Sun Devils quarterback has completed 60.7% of his passes for 1,628 yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions. Additionally, he has added 300 yards and five touchdowns on the ground as a dual-threat quarterback.
Unfortunately for the Sun Devils, they won’t be able to call upon Leavitt’s services against Iowa State due to his foot injury.
Arizona State won the Big 12 title last season, but it appears the team might face challenges in winning back-to-back conference titles after suffering three losses this season. The upcoming games, including the clash against Iowa State, will be critical as the Sun Devils look to rebound and keep their season on track.
