Amazon (AMZN) released its Q3 2025 earnings report on Thursday, showcasing strong profitability across multiple segments. One of the standout areas for the company was Amazon Web Services (AWS), which continues to deliver impressive growth.
AWS segment sales increased by 20% year-over-year, reaching $33 billion. “AWS is growing at a pace we haven’t seen since 2022, re-accelerating to 20.2% YoY,” said Amazon President and CEO Andy Jassy in the earnings report. He highlighted the sustained strong demand in AI and core infrastructure, noting that AWS has focused on accelerating capacity by adding more than 3.8 gigawatts in the past 12 months.
In addition to AWS, Amazon’s retail operations are also making significant strides. The company continues to innovate within its fulfillment network, aiming to provide Prime members with the fastest delivery speeds ever this year. Amazon plans to expand same-day delivery of perishable groceries to over 2,300 communities by the end of the year and double the number of rural communities with access to Amazon’s Same-Day and Next-Day Delivery services.
Operating income from the AWS segment rose to $11.4 billion, up $1 billion compared to the previous year. This figure includes severance costs related to planned role eliminations across multiple departments at Amazon.
While AWS’s strong financial performance is a focal point of the quarterly earnings report, the timing comes amid challenges for the company. A recent AWS outage caused widespread disruptions for businesses around the world, highlighting the critical importance of maintaining reliable service even as the segment continues to grow rapidly.
