After making a mark in cinemas, **Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1** is set to premiere on OTT on October 31. The prominent streaming giant Amazon Prime Video will stream the film’s original Kannada version, along with dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam for now. The Hindi version of the period drama is scheduled for a digital release a month later.
### Amazon Prime Video Secures OTT Rights in a Record Deal
Bollywood Hungama has learned about an interesting development regarding the film’s digital distribution deal.
**SCOOP:** Amazon Prime Video bags *Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1* for a staggering Rs. 110 crore; beats Netflix’s Rs. 100 crore offer.
A source revealed, “The makers of *Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1* initially asked for Rs. 125 crores for the OTT rights, considering the immense buzz around the film. They approached Netflix, which offered Rs. 100 crores. However, Amazon Prime Video gave a better deal by offering Rs. 110 crores for the streaming rights. This is how the film secured its place on Prime Video.”
This deal marks the second-highest OTT rights acquisition ever for a Kannada film. The record still belongs to *KGF Chapter 2* (2022), whose digital rights fetched over Rs. 300 crores.
Interestingly, both the *KGF* and *Kantara* franchises are backed by Hombale Films, a production banner that has been credited with placing Kannada cinema on the global map through these monumental successes.
### About Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1
*Kantara* stars Rishab Shetty, Sapthami Gowda, Kishore, and Achyuth Kumar in leading roles. The story revolves around a carefree young lad living in a forested region of Karnataka who transforms into a hero when a greedy landlord—seemingly friendly with the villagers—tries to treacherously usurp their land.
The villagers are devotees of Panjurli, a demigod who protects them and the forest. This spiritual aspect plays a significant role throughout the film.
The sequel, *Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1*, features Rishab Shetty alongside Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram. This installment explores deeper into the origins of the mythological tradition and ancestral conflicts introduced in the first film. Both movies are directed by Rishab Shetty.
The first film ends with a promise of a sequel, titled *Kantara: A Legend Chapter 2*.
