The Los Angeles Dodgers faced the possibility of losing Game 6 of the 2025 World Series in the most heartbreaking fashion imaginable. The Toronto Blue Jays sent the first two hitters of the inning to reach base, putting the Dodgers in a tough spot.
Addison Barger nearly drove in a run to cut the deficit to one, but a ground rule double ended up bailing out the Dodgers, holding the runners at second and third. It was a crucial moment that kept the Dodgers’ hopes alive.
As if guided by the baseball gods, Kiké Hernandez came up big. He snagged a shallow fly ball from Andres Gimenez for the second out of the inning and then threw out an ultra-aggressive Barger at second base to end the game. This preserved a 3-1 lead for LA on the night and extended the World Series to a decisive seventh game.
After the game, Hernandez spoke with Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, recounting the final moments from his perspective. “I was playing a little more shallow than [they] wanted me to. I was like, ‘You know what, I’m gonna play really, really shallow,’” Hernandez explained. “I mean, if [Gimenez] hits it over my head, kudos to him. I feel like his pop is more to the pull side. Somehow I was able to hear that the bat broke, even with that crowd. The crazy thing is I had no idea where the ball was, cause it was in the lights the whole time.”
Hernandez also gave credit to Miguel Rojas for his crucial role in ending the game. “I thought I long-hopped him. But I gave him a really hard throw to catch. I think it was a better pick [from Rojas] than it was a play from my end,” Hernandez added.
### Dodgers Maintain Composure as World Series Boils Down to Decisive Game 7
The Dodgers showed the composure of a veteran, World Series-winning squad in how they handled adversity during Game 6. Many teams might have folded under such pressure, but the Dodgers executed perfectly.
Justin Dean did an excellent job by calling the dead ball on Barger’s double, providing clarity and control over the play. Meanwhile, Hernandez’s heads-up defense—tracking the shallow fly ball and making the sharp throw to second—secured the critical out.
With the series extended to Game 7, the Dodgers enter the decisive matchup with momentum and confidence, proving why they remain a formidable force in professional baseball.
