Rumor Assessment: 60% – Plausible

There have been numerous rumors and leaks surrounding the flagship Battlemage discrete GPU, and this latest information also indicates that Intel has prepared one.

Engineering Graphics Driver INF File Reveals BMG-G31 to be Utilized in Three Pro and One Consumer GPU Variant, Hinting at Arc B770

It’s no secret that Intel has been developing the Xe2, Battlemage-based BMG-G31 chip, which has appeared multiple times online. Last month, the BMG-G31 was spotted in a Linux boot log revealing that the GPU will feature 16 GB of VRAM and is likely related to the rumored Arc B770.

Another recent leak supports this information. However, since the source isn’t a prominent leaker, it’s best to take this news with a grain of salt.

The leaker @GOKForFree reported that an obtained Graphics Driver INF file contained details about Intel’s BMG-G31. According to a partially blurred screenshot, the BMG-G31 is reportedly used in four GPU variants—three Pro versions and one consumer model.

This suggests that Intel has developed a faster GPU than the Arc B580, which currently uses a less powerful BMG-G21 die. Additionally, the engineering driver’s INF file reportedly includes both Nova Lake and Nova Lake S, which are slated for release next year.

Following Intel’s previous generation naming conventions, the new BMG-G31-based GPU could very well be the long-rumored Arc B770.

What Does This Mean for the Market?

It’s been months since rumors about the Arc B770 surfaced, but no official launch details have emerged. The Arc B580 has been available for nearly 10 months, while competitors AMD and NVIDIA have released most models in their latest-generation lineups.

It seems unlikely that Intel will release the Arc B770 before CES, but this remains speculation.

While the Battlemage family appears to live on with a potentially powerful mid-range GPU, the timing may be less than ideal given the availability of other strong alternatives in the market.

The Arc B770 could compete against GPUs such as the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB and Radeon RX 7600 XT 16 GB, considering it will feature 16 GB of VRAM and roughly 1.6 times more cores than the Arc B580.

If priced at $350 or less, the Arc B770 could serve as a solid 1440p gaming option. However, to be truly attractive, it will need to outperform the RX 7600 XT 16 GB within this price range.
