Team India will lock horns against South Africa in the ICC Women’s World Cup final 2025 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2. The Women in Blue are coming off a record run chase against Australia in the semifinal, where they won by five wickets to enter the final.
However, they face a tough challenge in the Proteas Women, who have already defeated India by three wickets earlier in the ongoing ICC event last month. India Women are yet to win a World Cup title since the tournament began in 1973. They will be hoping to get third time lucky and finally end their ICC trophy drought.
The Indian team will have to bury past heartbreaks, having lost the finals in 2005 and 2017 against Australia and England respectively. Like India, the South African squad, led by Laura Woolvardt, will also be eyeing their maiden World Cup title.
All eyes will be on the in-form Indian players Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Smriti Mandhana, and captain Harmanpreet Kaur. In this article, we highlight three Indian players who will be playing their second World Cup final after 2017.
### 3 Indians in Women’s World Cup 2025 Final Squad Who Also Played the 2017 Final
#### Smriti Mandhana
Smriti Mandhana has been in prime form in the ongoing World Cup. She is currently the second-highest run-getter in the tournament, scoring 389 runs in eight innings at an average of 55.5, including one century and two half-centuries.
With 5,277 runs in 116 innings, Mandhana is also the leading run-scorer for the Women in Blue among active players. She will be keen to make amends after departing for a four-ball duck in the 2017 final against England. A century in this final will help her equal former Australian captain Meg Lanning’s record of 15 ODI hundreds. Mandhana will be looking to rise to the occasion.
#### Deepti Sharma
Like Mandhana, Deepti Sharma had a forgettable outing in the 2017 World Cup final against England. She went wicketless, conceding 39 runs in nine overs, and scored 14 runs off 12 deliveries with the bat.
The 28-year-old is currently ranked among the top five all-rounders in the 50-over format. Sharma has amassed 2,681 runs in 120 matches at an average of 36.72, including one century and 17 fifties. With her off-spin, she has also taken 157 wickets at an economy rate of 4.38.
Sharma is the joint-highest wicket-taker in the ongoing 2025 World Cup alongside Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland, with 17 wickets each. With the Aussies knocked out, Deepti will be keen to become Player of the Tournament.
#### Harmanpreet Kaur
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur is coming into the final on the back of a brilliant batting performance against Australia in the semifinals. The senior batter scored 89 runs off 88 balls, guiding India to a five-wicket victory. She also contributed a run-a-ball 70 against England earlier in the tournament.
The Punjab all-rounder played a magnificent 171-run innings against Australia in the 2017 semi-final to help India reach that year’s final. She also scored a fighting fifty in the 2017 final against England, where India narrowly lost by nine runs.
Having represented India in the 2009, 2012/13, 2017, and 2022 World Cups, Harmanpreet will be desperate to finally taste victory and lift the World Cup trophy in 2025.
