Fetterman calls for bipartisan cooperation as he continues working across party lines on key issues

Sen. John Fetterman on Bridging Political Divides and His Stance on Key Issues

Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) recently joined Lara Trump for an interview on “My View,” where he discussed the importance of having conversations across the political divide. Known for occasionally breaking ranks with his party, Fetterman has taken notable positions on issues such as U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi’s confirmation, support for the Laken Riley Act for Border Security, and U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

Currently, his stance on the government shutdown is drawing attention. “Whether it’s Republican or Democrat, whatever is driving the shutdown, that’s always wrong,” Fetterman said. “You may have a noble goal, but that is the wrong tactic.”

Fetterman emphasized his commitment to representing all Pennsylvanians. “I’m not just representing Democrats,” he said. “I’m representing 13 million Pennsylvanians.” He highlighted the importance of bipartisan collaboration, noting his work alongside Republican colleagues on various pieces of legislation.

Following the tragic murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, Fetterman partnered with Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) to introduce the Laken Riley Act. “She reached out saying, hey, would you be willing to co-sponsor? I’m very, very pro-immigration, always have been,” Fetterman explained. However, he also acknowledged that his party has “done a bad job” securing the border.

In addition to the Laken Riley Act, Fetterman and Britt co-introduced the Stop the Scroll Act, which would require social media companies to include mental health warning labels on their platforms.

Regarding U.S. strikes in Iran, Fetterman expressed strong support. “How can we allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon?” he asked. “That would transform the Middle East for the worse.” He also credited the strikes with helping to create conditions for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Fetterman praised the strikes as a geopolitical success for President Donald Trump, noting that his own party has been too hesitant to celebrate this achievement.

The Pennsylvania senator also reflected on a January dinner he shared with President Trump, describing a positive conversation where they found common ground. “It’s not about bending the knee,” Fetterman said.

Addressing the heated rhetoric often seen in politics, Fetterman warned against labeling political opponents as “Nazis” or “fascists.” He said such language only deepens division by implying that those who vote for them share those extreme views.
