AEW star Jon Moxley has been making headlines following a controversial spot in his recent “I Quit” match against Darby Allin at WrestleDream 2025. Known for their willingness to engage in extreme and intense spots, Moxley and Allin have been involved in a heated rivalry for several weeks.
The two faced off once again in the main event of last month’s WrestleDream event. During the match, a particular moment went viral when Jon Moxley dunked Darby Allin’s head into a fish tank in an attempt to drown him. This dramatic and risky spot sparked widespread criticism across the wrestling community.
In response to the backlash, WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long stepped forward to defend Moxley. Speaking on a recent episode of *The Wrestling Time Machine* on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, Long emphasized the scripted nature of professional wrestling. He pointed out that wrestlers are well aware of what will happen in the ring ahead of time and, if they agree to perform certain spots, then it’s generally considered acceptable.
Long stated,
“I really don’t know because with professional wrestling, you know, there’s no telling what might happen. And then people have to understand, too. Well, a lot of people don’t know, but you know, everything is scripted here. You know what I mean? So guys know what’s going to happen even before they get out there. So if they think it’s okay in the back, they’ve discussed it. They’ve maybe rehearsed it. I don’t know. And if they think it’s okay, then go with it.”
Ultimately, Darby Allin overcame Moxley in the main event to secure the victory, bringing an end to this chapter of their rivalry.
Aside from the intense main event, WrestleDream 2025 saw other significant moments. Mercedes Mone defeated Mina Shirakawa to claim the Interim ROH World Television Championship. With this win, Mercedes Mone broke Ultimo Dragon’s long-standing record of holding 10 titles simultaneously—an impressive milestone in wrestling history.
Other than this title change, there were no additional shifts in championship statuses, as all other defending champions successfully retained their titles throughout the night.
