This 1957 MG MGA 1500 roadster is a beautifully restored classic, originally taken off the road in 1979. The current seller acquired the car as a project in 2020 and has meticulously refurbished it over the ensuing five years to bring it back to show-quality condition.
The extensive body-off restoration included a fresh black repaint and a replacement tan convertible top, fitted in 2020. During the refurbishment, the fenders were repaired using patch panels, and the side mirrors were thoughtfully relocated to the windshield frame. The exterior is further enhanced by a bright body-contour grille, chrome bumpers, and 15″ knock-off wire wheels wrapped in 165/80 Nexen tires. A set of removable side curtains is also included with the sale.
Underneath, the car features an independent front suspension with coil springs and hydraulic dampers, paired with rack-and-pinion steering for responsive handling. Four-wheel drum brakes provide stopping power, with both the suspension and brakes having been overhauled as part of the restoration.
Inside the cabin, the interior was re-trimmed in 2020 and showcases bucket seats covered in tan vinyl upholstery. The interior design is tastefully coordinated with a matching upper dash pad, center armrest, and door panels. Modern amenities such as a USB charging port have been discreetly added. Additional creature comforts include a Smiths heater, dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, lap belts, and door map pockets for added convenience.
The retrofitted four-spoke banjo-style steering wheel is wrapped with an aftermarket cover and mounted to an adjustable column. Original Jaeger and Smiths instrumentation has been replaced with high-quality units including a 120-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The reset five-digit odometer currently reads 1,100 miles, which are believed to represent the mileage since the completion of the refurbishment. The original removed steering wheel will accompany the car.
Powering this MGA 1500 is a rebuilt 1.5L B-series inline-four engine that breathes through dual SU carburetors. Additional mechanical upgrades under current ownership include the installation of an aluminum radiator and a stainless-steel exhaust system. The fuel system has been fully refurbished with a replacement fuel tank and pump.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. Further mechanical work in 2024 and 2025 included rebuilding the transmission and differential, as well as replacing the clutch assembly to ensure smooth and reliable performance.
This classic MGA comes with a clean Nevada title in the seller’s name, along with a collection of refurbishment photos, spare and removed parts, and all documentation from the extensive restoration process.
Photos taken at various stages of the refurbishment are included in the gallery, offering an in-depth look at the care and craftsmanship that has gone into bringing this iconic British roadster back to life.
