“Has to be respect for Federer, Nadal, Murray & me” – Novak Djokovic chastises journalist for misrepresenting his take on Alcaraz & Sinner’s dominance

Novak Djokovic recently addressed a journalist’s misrepresentation of his comments regarding the dominance of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in men’s tennis. The Serbian star emphasized that while the current World No. 1 and No. 2 are playing at a level above their peers today, it was the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, and himself who truly elevated the sport to new heights.

Alcaraz and Sinner are undeniably the faces of men’s singles tennis at the moment. The young duo have collectively won nine of the last ten Grand Slam championships and have dominated the ATP Rankings. However, Djokovic pointed out that their current duopoly pales in comparison to the era of Federer, Nadal, Murray, and himself — a period that defined men’s tennis for nearly two decades.

During a recent press conference, a journalist began a question by stating, “(You) said that Sinner and Alcaraz raised tennis to another level.” Djokovic quickly corrected the record:

“I didn’t say that. I said that those two play at a level above others currently. You have to show some respect to us. There has to be respect for Roger, Rafa, Andy, and me. That’s the level of tennis we want. Those two are level above others.”

Between 2003 and 2025, the ‘Big Four’—Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, and Novak Djokovic—absolutely dominated the tennis world. Together, they amassed a staggering total of 69 Grand Slam titles, 14 ATP Finals trophies, and numerous other accolades, leaving an indelible mark on the sport.

### Djokovic Reflects on Semifinal Win at the Hellenic Championships

Novak Djokovic is currently competing at the Hellenic Championships in Athens, Greece. In the semifinals, the 38-year-old secured a hard-fought victory over Yannick Hanfmann to reach his 145th tour-level final.

Reflecting on the match, Djokovic said, “I think it was the best tennis I’ve played this tournament. It came at the right time. Hanfmann poses a great threat because he serves big and has a big game, so I needed to really stay focused. I was a break down in the second set, but I held my composure. I’m very excited for the final.”

He also expressed gratitude to the fans, adding, “Thank you for filling out this amazing stadium again. It’s my third match on centre court, but every time I walk out I’m amazed. I’ve played in some of the most beautiful indoor arenas in the world, but I can definitely say this is one of the top three I’ve ever played in.”
