Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage devs on the release & bridging the gap to the next game

This past week, Sega and Ryo Ga Gotoku Studio released *Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage* on consoles and PC. This new edition brings the rollback netcode from REVO’s PC version to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, introduces crossplay, and adds Dural as a playable character in the base roster and stage selection. Additionally, a new offline mode has been included, allowing players to challenge themselves against a computer-controlled gauntlet in a fresh single-player quest.

By all accounts, this might be the final chapter for *VF5* before the next big project Sega is working on. To learn more, we spoke with Seiji Aoki about the release, ongoing support, community feedback, and what lies ahead as the franchise transitions to a new generation.

### Meeting Community Requests Head-On

One of the major additions in *World Stage* is the introduction of a proper single-player mode. While *Virtua Fighter 5* has always featured an arcade mode, an extensive single-player experience has been notably absent, and this was a frequent request from fans.

“Up until now, we have been receiving comments that they would like a more in-depth single-player mode,” Aoki explained. “Before, the Quest mode was very popular. A lot of people wanted that back. On our official Discord and X, we were getting many comments like that. That’s why we decided to create this new World Stage mode. We’ve been trying to listen to those voices, and that’s how we’ve been progressing with creating new elements for the game.”

### Expanding Multiplatform Access

Delivering *Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage* on multiple platforms was another key priority. The original REVO release was exclusive to PC, which limited the player base, despite earlier versions of *Virtua Fighter 5* appearing on consoles.

“Now, other people will be able to play on other platforms as well,” Aoki said. “It’s available on PS5, Xbox, and Steam this time. It used to be only on Steam, so there were people who could not play because they were on other platforms. But now that it’s also on Xbox and PS5 alongside Steam, I hope that a lot more people will be able to play the game.”

### Listening Through Discord

Discord has served as a vital hub for communication between the developers and the community. Aoki, who originally worked on arcade titles, found it challenging at first to adapt to the lack of direct, in-person feedback on consoles and Steam. However, as the team expanded and adapted to evolving player expectations and trends, they learned to incorporate community input in new and effective ways.

“Thanks to the fans,” Aoki shared, “we have been able to establish an environment where good communication happens between developers and users, and we’re able to plan based on direct feedback.”

### Preparing for the New Generation

The big question looming over the *Virtua Fighter* franchise is the next game in development. Fans are eagerly anticipating it, but the release date remains unknown. Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have emphasized that their goal is to ensure the next installment feels authentic — a true evolution of the *Virtua Fighter* brand.

Until then, *Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage* carries the responsibility of keeping the franchise fresh and engaging.

“The new *Virtua Fighter* isn’t out yet, so it’s been a very long time since the last game was released,” Aoki reflected. “That’s why I’m happy to be able to release this new World Stage version at this time. I also want to thank the fans, because without them, we wouldn’t be able to release this new version. So, thank you very much.”

With *Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage* now available across platforms and featuring new modes and characters, fans have plenty to enjoy as they await the future of this iconic fighting series.
