It: Welcome to Derry: King Offers “Spinal Tap”-Themed Episode 3 Tease

Stephen King Teases *It: Welcome to Derry* Episode 3 — “This One Goes to Eleven”

With only hours to go until *It: Welcome to Derry* Season 1, Episode 3, titled “Now You See It,” hits screens, excitement is building among fans and creators alike. Filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, along with showrunners Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane, are set to deliver another chilling chapter in this horror-packed series.

Adding to the anticipation, bestselling author Stephen King recently teased that tonight’s episode “ratchets up the horror” — a significant endorsement from one of the genre’s most respected voices. To emphasize his point, King dropped a classic *This Is Spinal Tap* reference, saying, “As Nigel Tufnel would say, ‘This one goes to eleven.’”

### What to Expect in *It: Welcome to Derry* S01E03: “Now You See It”

In this episode, General Shaw pushes ahead with his mission, ordering Leroy and Pauly to escort Dick Hallorann on an aerial search for a new dig site. Meanwhile, Rose attends a tribal meeting, and Ronnie, Lilly, Will, and Rich attempt to get visual proof by conjuring an Orixá.

The episode is directed by Andy Muschietti and written by Guadalis Del Carmen and Gabe Hobson.

### Inside the Horrific Opening: A “Red Wedding” Moment

The very first episode delivered a brutal opening that set the tone for the series. Introducing Matty (Miles Ekhardt) only to kill him shortly after in a truly horrific way, the show immediately established that danger lurks everywhere.

Matty’s classmates—Lilly (Clara Stack), Ronnie (Amanda Christine), Phil (Jack Molloy Legault), Teddy (Mikkal Karim-Fidler), and Susie (Matilda Legault)—band together to find answers, but their efforts end disastrously. Only Lilly and Ronnie survive, leaving viewers shocked and exclaiming, “Did they just f***ing kill the ‘Losers Club’?”

Barbara Muschietti described the shock as their own version of the infamous “Red Wedding” from HBO’s *Game of Thrones*. “It’s our Red Wedding,” she said in a profile interview with *Entertainment Weekly*.

Andy Muschietti added, “This is strategically a devastating event to set the audience into that sense of ‘nothing is safe in this world.’ We kind of trick the audience into thinking that these are the new Losers. Well, guess what? They’re all dead. It was a product of that mini room experience where we decided, ‘What if this happened?’”

Showrunner Jason Fuchs revealed some behind-the-scenes insight about the writing process. The kids originally survived in the pilot script, but during the pitch, Andy Muschietti dramatically revealed that all except Lilly and Ronnie would be killed off. Beneath their headshots was an entirely new group of kids, signaling a bold creative direction. Fuchs reflected, “If we can replicate their reaction in the room with audiences at home, we’ll have a really interesting, exciting, satisfying way to end episode 1.”

### Pushing the Boundaries of Horror

Barbara Muschietti admitted that they were prepared for resistance from the network regarding the show’s horror intensity and jump scares. “We went in thinking that will be the fight for us, we’re gonna have to fight to keep on pushing the horror and push the jump scares,” she said. But to their surprise, it was the opposite — the network was supportive of their vision. This support came as a “huge relief,” allowing the creators to maintain their bold approach to horror and storytelling.

As anticipation grows for Episode 3, fans can expect a night filled with intense horror, unexpected twists, and storytelling that truly “goes to eleven,” according to Stephen King himself. Stay tuned for our updated preview, coming soon!
