1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III

This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III underwent a repaint and an interior re-trim as part of a refurbishment completed in 1990. It is said to have remained with the prior owner from 1988 until the current owner’s acquisition in 2022.

The car is finished in Healey Blue with a blue soft top, complemented by blue leather upholstery. Under the hood, it is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six engine equipped with dual SU carburetors. Shifting is managed through a four-speed manual transmission with an electrically actuated Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit.

Additional features include 15″ Minilite-style alloy wheels mounted with 185/70 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, 2+2 seating, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a Realistic AM/FM radio.

The body was repainted in its current Healey Blue finish during the 1990 refurbishment. The blue folding soft top is accompanied by a removable blue tonneau cover. Exterior details include a hood scoop, Monza-branded exhaust finishers, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The seller notes that the trunk latch does not engage.

Inside, the 2+2 cabin features bucket seats trimmed in blue leather, with wood trim adorning the dash on either side of the center stack. Additional interior appointments include a heater, a locking glovebox, and hand-crank windows. The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 83,000 miles.

The 2.9-liter inline-six engine, originally rated at 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque, has dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory. An upgraded PerTronix Flame-Thrower ignition has been added. Note that the engine number plate is missing.

This BJ8 Mk III is now offered on dealer consignment with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (BMIHT) certificate, a blue tonneau cover, and a clean Texas title listing the car as a 1967 model. The BMIHT certificate confirms the factory colors and equipment and indicates a build date of August 1966.

This classic Austin-Healey 3000 represents a beautifully maintained example with tasteful upgrades and a documented heritage, making it an excellent choice for enthusiasts and collectors alike.
