Myles McLaughlin sets two national all-time rushing records

Knox Community (IN) quarterback and running back Myles McLaughlin has been breaking Indiana high school football records all season long, and now the senior is making national headlines.

In Knox Community’s 28-21 victory over Angola, McLaughlin set two national rushing records for a single season: 71 touchdowns and 4,768 yards. His outstanding performance has attracted attention from colleges, and he recently received a collegiate offer from Ball State.

The Redskins now advance to the IHSA Class 3A semi-state championships, where they will face Bishop Luers. This game presents McLaughlin with a chance to surpass Derrick Henry’s national record of 12,124 career rushing yards. McLaughlin needs 365 yards to tie the record and 366 yards to become the all-time national career rushing leader in high school football.

Already, McLaughlin is Indiana’s most prolific rusher ever, having broken the state’s all-time rushing record previously held by Palestine’s Charlie Spegal. He is also just the fifth player in high school football history to surpass 11,000 career rushing yards, currently sitting at an impressive 11,759 yards.

In a recent 50-35 win over Griffith Senior, McLaughlin rushed for 408 yards, securing his place as Indiana’s all-time rushing leader. Earlier this season, he joined former New Palestine standout Charlie Spegal as the only two runners in Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) football history to eclipse the 10,000-yard rushing milestone.
