It sounds like we could be seeing *Black Panther 3* relatively soon. Ryan Coogler, director of the first two *Black Panther* films, has revealed that a return to Wakanda is his next feature, though there’s no indication yet of when we might see it.
Coogler addressed the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) installment during an on-stage interview for Contenders Film: Los Angeles, hosted by Deadline. When asked about a *Black Panther* threequel, he responded, “If it was anybody but you, I would say, ‘I can neither confirm nor deny.’ But we’re working on it hard. Yeah, it’s the next movie.”
Fans have known *Black Panther 3* has been in development for some time, thanks in large part to Denzel Washington. In June 2024, Washington stated that Coogler was writing a role for him in the film. Coogler himself confirmed Washington’s involvement this past summer.
Letitia Wright and Winston Duke are expected to reprise their roles, though no other casting announcements have been made. Beyond that, there’s been little indication on the status of the project, and Coogler has kept his schedule quite full.
In addition to *Black Panther 3*, Coogler has been involved in developing Disney+ shows *Eyes of Wakanda* and *Ironheart*. He also wrote and directed *Sinners*, an original vampire horror film set in the deep south of the U.S. during the early 1930s, led by his frequent collaborator Michael B. Jordan.
Coogler’s use of the term “next movie” is notable, especially since he has been working on his reboot of *The X-Files* after completing *Sinners*. Details on that project remain under wraps, but we may hear updates soon if *Black Panther 3* is moving forward.
Looking ahead, *Avengers: Doomsday* is set to arrive next year, followed by *Secret Wars* the year after. The MCU’s release schedule continues to be ambitious, leaving little room for delays.
