After a year-long wait, Fallout will officially be returning this December, and the new season can’t come fast enough. Season 1 ended with a number of intense cliffhangers after Lucy (Ella Purnell) learned a number of horrible truths about Hank (Kyle MacLachlan). Now, Hank is free and on the run, Moldaver (Sarita Choudhury) is dead, and Maximus (Aaron Moten) now has what he once wanted so badly: a position as a knight for the Brotherhood of Steel. Meanwhile, Lucy and the Ghoul (Walton Goggins) are off following Hank, alongside Dogmeat. Those who are familiar with the video game may have a general idea of where certain Season 2 storylines are headed, but all Fallout fans have been left with a number of questions after Season 1. There is a lot left to wonder about in the wake of the wild Season 1 finale, both in regard to the characters’ journeys next season, and all the mysteries about life above and below the surface. These are the things that Fallout needs to address in Season 2. 1 What and Who Will Hank Find in New Vegas? Season 1 of Fallout ended with Hank taking a knight suit and fleeing off on his own after being freed by Maximus. Hank only looks out for himself, so he abandoned Lucy when he realized that she wanted to hold him accountable for his actions. After a season of making viewers believe that the entirety of life above the surface was full of radiation and violence, the last shot of the season revealed that Hank was going to a bustling city. The city in question, as fans know from the video game, is New Vegas, but it is not clear yet what Hank expects to find there. There are definitely other Vault-Tec people living there, but there is still a lot left to learn about New Vegas. We do not yet know if they are affected by the radiation, what life is like for the people living there, or who ended up in that city. Additionally, the presence of New Vegas could mean that there are other similar cities that exist as well. 2 How Will Maximus’ New Title Change Him? Before meeting Lucy, Maximus dreamed of becoming a knight for the Brotherhood of Steel. Upon meeting her, his goal changed, and the two of them were planning to go to Vault 33 together after finding Hank. Now, Lucy’s world as she knows it has been upended, but Maximus is also dealing with a major change. After he woke up from nearly dying, Maximus was mistakenly credited for Moldaver’s death, and now he’s been given knighthood and all the glory that he could have ever dreamed of. The Season 2 trailer seems to show Maximus searching for Lucy again, but it is very likely that his new title will have changed him, even if he doesn’t want to stay with the Brotherhood. He may unearth alarming secrets, or he could be drawn into the life that he always wanted for himself. Maximus and Lucy will likely reunite by the end of Season 2, but the two characters may have changed so much by then, that their bond could be different when they next see each other. 3 Are Barb and Janey Still Alive? Both at the end of Season 1 and in the trailer for Season 2, The Ghoul stated that his main goal is finding his family. It is not yet clear what happened after the bomb went off, or whether Cooper was able to get Janey (Teagan Meredith) to a vault. If he’s looking for her now, though, there’s a good chance that she successfully made it to a vault. This begs the question of how Cooper ended up stuck on the surface while Janey joined Barb (Frances Turner) in a vault. Even if Barb and Janey survived the bombing, they may not still be alive today. Barb likely did the same thing that Hank did to preserve her body for all those years, but Janey might not have. Season 2 of Fallout will probably finally give answers to The Ghoul’s main question, even if these answers aren’t what he had hoped. If Barb and Janey are alive, they could also very well be living in New Vegas, in which case the journey to find Hank could lead The Ghoul and Lucy to them. 4 How Will the Events of the Season 1 Finale Affect Lucy? Lucy’s arc in Season 1 was about unlearning everything that she’d been told about both life on the surface and life in the vaults. She came face-to-face with quite a bit of cruelty on the surface, and while she became tougher and more grounded, she still retained her natural enthusiasm. The Season 1 finale was a massive shakeup for Lucy, though, and it would make sense for this to affect her character in Season 2. At the end of Season 1, Lucy learned that her father had been lying to her for her whole life, and that he was responsible for the destruction of Shady Sands, and for her mother (Elle Vertes) being turned into a ghoul. Even more, she had once lived in Shady Sands, and he’d made her think that she’d never left the vault. The season ended with Lucy mercy-killing her mother and then leaving a dying Maximus to get away from the Brotherhood of Steel and find her father. Now, Lucy does not know that Maximus survived, and she still has to process everything that she has learned about her family. 5 What Other Experiments Are Being Conducted in the Vaults? In Season 1, Lucy was horrified to discover the science experiments in Vault 4 when she and Maximus were staying there while he recovered from his gunshot wound. From the sounds of it, though, it seems like most of the vaults have similar experiments, so Season 2 should delve into this more. Vault 31 holds the secret of the chambers that kept Hank and many others frozen in time, but it has not yet been revealed what is in the other vaults. Lucy may not be going back into any of the vaults anytime soon, but Fallout can still give more information about the vaults’ horrifying secrets. Perhaps Norm (Moises Arias) will wind up in another vault if he escapes 31, or the vault dwellers in 32 and 33 might venter out of their homes upon potentially learning the truths that Lucy and Norm have already uncovered. 6 Will Norm Escape Vault 31? As of the end of Season 1, Norm is still stuck in Vault 31 after being encouraged to enter one of the chambers in the meantime. To no one’s surprise, the Season 2 trailer shows Norm still in Vault 31 and determined to find a way out. It is likely that he won’t be stuck there for much of Season 2, but it will be difficult for him to escape, and there will be even larger obstacles waiting for him if he does. If Norm does make it back to Vault 33 in Season 2, he will be the deliverer of some very bad news, and it will probably not be received that well by the other people there. Betty (Leslie Uggams) will likely try to silence him, and even the innocent vault dwellers may be like Chet (Dave Register) and not want to risk their own security in order to learn the truth about the vaults. 7 Did Barb Ever Find Out About the Listening Device? Throughout Season 1 of Fallout, the past timeline showed Cooper slowly being pulled into the world of Vault-Tech. He initially did commercials for them because Barb was working there, but later, he started to become suspicious of Vault-Tech. Cooper set up Moldaver’s listening device with Barb’s Pip-Boy to listen in on her conversations, and he learned that Vault-Tech (at Barb’s suggestion) was planning to drop a nuclear bomb in order to benefit financially and wipe out their competitors.
