KILGORE The Kilgore College Rangers will head into Region XIV Conference play firing on all cylinders. Dekwon Brown, Elijah Herron and Kendall Mitchell came off the bench to combine for 45 points, and led wire-to-wire Saturday on the way to a 109-64 win over the Cedar Valley Suns in a non-conference skirmish at Masters Gymnasium. The win in the final non-conference game for the Rangers moves KC to 7-1 overall, and it marks the third time in those eight games KC has scored at least 100 points. Cedar Valley drops to 3-4 with the loss. Brown finished with 20 points Herron added 14 and Mitchell scored 11 for KC, which led by a wide margin in every major stat category. The Ranger bench outscored the Suns’ subs 72-6, and Kilgore had a 27-3 advantage on points off turnovers and a 46-30 edge in points in the paint. Rounding out the scoring for KC were LaMarious White with 11, Jeremiah Cooper with 10, Antonio Shannon and Kaiden Myers with eight apiece, Jordan Moore and Antoine Shannon with six apiece, Kole Williams and Josh Olutayo with four each, Ja’Corian Oes with three and Chidi Umeh and Malachi Hubbard with two points apiece. Herron had seven rebounds and White six. Mitchell added five assists and three steals, Moore and Cooper two blocks apiece and Williams four assists. Larry Lyons scored 21 points for Cedar Valley. J’Ylon Nobles had 13 and Marcel Hurst 12. The Rangers took control of this one early, using an old-fashioned 3-point play by Antonio Shannon and a dunk from Olutayo to build a quick 5-0 lead and then pushing that advantage to 15-2 with triples from Myers and Brown and inside buckets from Cooper and Moore. KC went up by 23 on a dunk from Antonio Shannon, made it a 26-point game (51-25) with back-to-back buckets from Antoine Shannon (a 3-pointer) and Olutayo and enjoyed a 57-28 lead at halftime when White scored back-to-back hoops from the paint to close out the first 20 minutes. From there it was simply a matter of whether or not KC would hit the century mark, and Brown took care of that business when he drove the baseline for a layup to make it a 100-60 contest. The Rangers will be idle until Dec. 3 when they travel to Athens to open Region XIV Conference play against Trinity Valley. KC’s next home game is set for Dec. 6 a 4 p. m. conference clash against Lamar State-Port Arthur.
