The college football transfer portal window opens on January 2, 2026, and there is expected to be a wealth of solid players available nationwide. As teams look to bolster their rosters, programs seeking an upgrade at quarterback will be particularly eager once the window opens.
One quarterback generating significant buzz is Josh Hoover, who appears to be planning a transfer from TCU. Hoover, a redshirt junior and three-year starter for the TCU Horned Frogs, has reportedly entered the transfer portal, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN.
Hoover is likely to be the most experienced quarterback available in the transfer portal. According to ESPN, he projects to have the most passing yards (9,629) and touchdown passes (71) among any quarterback expected to return in 2026.
This past season, Josh Hoover led TCU to an 8-4 record. The Horned Frogs are set to face the No. 16 USC Trojans in the upcoming Alamo Bowl.
This story is currently developing, and more information will be published as it becomes available. Stay tuned for updates.
