This year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is in full swing, with tech companies from around the world gathering at the Las Vegas Convention Center to showcase their latest products and working concepts. Among the exhibitors, The LEGO Group made a notable appearance, unveiling a major new update that will feature in its upcoming product lineup.
LEGO’s big reveal is a Smart Brick—a small, innovative piece containing a computer chip capable of delivering sounds, lights, and interactive effects to LEGO creations. The details of this new Smart Brick concept were announced in a press release coinciding with a live demonstration at CES 2026.
The Smart Brick, roughly the size of a LEGO brick peg, is part of LEGO’s evolving “Smart Play” initiatives. This latest technology builds upon the interactive features seen in sets like the LEGO Super Mario series. Inside this compact brick lies a custom chip that manages a wide array of features, tailored to the specific playset a user is assembling.
Further enhancing the interactivity, wireless NFC Smart Tags extend the Smart Brick’s capabilities to other parts of the set, enabling dynamic effects and responses during play.
Some of the first sets to incorporate the LEGO Smart Brick technology are scheduled for release on March 1, 2026. These new Star Wars-themed sets come in three different configurations:
– **Darth Vader TIE Fighter Set**
– 1 Smart Brick
– 1 TIE Fighter smart tag
– 1 Darth Vader smart figure
– 473 pieces
– Price: $70 USD
– **Luke Skywalker Red Five X-Wing Set**
– 1 Smart Brick
– 5 smart tags (X-Wing, Imperial turret, transporter, command center, and “R2-D2 accessories”)
– Luke and Leia smart figures

– **Darth Vader’s Throne Room Duel & A-Wing Set**

– 3 figures (Luke Skywalker, Emperor Palpatine, and Darth Vader)
– 5 smart tags (A-Wing, throne, Death Star turret, and two lightsabers)

Through the Smart Brick, each set will feature impressive interactive elements such as light and sound effects, light sensors, internal movement, tilt and gesture sensors, and Bluetooth connectivity to interact with other Smart Brick-enabled devices. The technology even includes a microphone that can recognize sounds like clapping and blowing, triggering different reactions from the LEGO set.
This innovative Smart Brick technology marks an exciting evolution in LEGO’s interactive play experiences, promising to bring a new level of immersion and fun to fans and collectors alike. Keep an eye out for these Star Wars sets when they hit the shelves next March!
