The New York Jets have made significant coaching changes, parting ways with a number of staff members, including former Pittsburgh Steelers linebackers coach Aaron Curry. Head coach Aaron Glenn took the decisive step of firing both of his coordinators along with multiple position coaches, among them Curry.
Throughout the season, the Jets’ linebacker performance was noticeably weak, though it was just one of several challenges the team faced. Curry, who joined the Steelers three years ago after serving as the assistant outside linebackers coach with the Seattle Seahawks, helped develop several players during his tenure. With the Steelers, rookie linebacker Payton Wilson showed promising progress under Curry’s guidance.
Despite this, Curry’s contract with the Steelers expired a year ago, and the team chose not to renew it. After being allowed to seek other opportunities, Curry landed a position with the Jets. However, this move turned out to be a step back in his coaching career. Once regarded as a rising candidate for a defensive coordinator role, Curry will now need to rebuild his coaching reputation after being dismissed by the Jets after just one season.
Following Curry’s departure, the Steelers hired Scott McCurley, former Cowboys linebackers coach, to fill the vacancy. McCurley’s strong connections to head coach Mike McCarthy make him a compelling candidate to remain part of the coaching staff moving forward.
