Verona knocks off Montclair Kimberley – Boys basketball recap

Ben Herman scored a game-high 19 points to lead Verona to a 48-39 victory over Montclair Kimberley in a SEC-Freedom division matchup held in Montclair.

After falling behind 11-4 in the first quarter, Verona (11-7) rallied with a strong second quarter to tie the game at 27 by halftime. The momentum shifted dramatically in the second half, as Verona dominated the game, outscoring Montclair Kimberley 28-12 in the final two quarters to secure the win.

Richard Camacho contributed 12 points for Verona, including two 3-pointers, while Noah Garson added 10 points, sinking eight free throws. On the Montclair Kimberley side, Joe Morante led the team with 13 points, and Khalil Shah-Brown finished with 12 points, including six from the free-throw line.

The game truly reflected a tale of two halves. Montclair Kimberley controlled the first half, but Verona’s defense took over in the second, holding their opponents to just six points in each of the third and fourth quarters.

With this victory, Verona improves its conference record to 5-4 in the SEC-Freedom division, while Montclair Kimberley falls to 4-4 in conference play.
