A man who was fired by the Lawrence Police Department last year was arrested on Sunday in New Hampshire for allegedly impersonating a police officer, authorities said.
Mikel Beltran, 37, of Andover, was pulled over on Rockingham Road in Londonderry, N.H., after officers spotted him flashing blue lights from his SUV, according to CBS News. When the officers stopped him, they noticed that Beltran was wearing a Lawrence Police Department jacket and had a corresponding badge.
Beltran identified himself as a Lawrence police officer to the Londonderry officers. However, when asked to show his police identification, he claimed he had left it at home.
It was later revealed that Beltran was formerly an officer with the Lawrence Police Department but was fired last year. According to Lawrence police, he was placed on administrative leave in September 2024 and “separated from employment” in March 2025. Additionally, Beltran was suspended from the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission in May 2025. As per the commission’s decision, he is no longer a certified law enforcement officer.
Since his termination, Beltran “has had no affiliation” with the Lawrence Police Department, Officer Maciel Sandoval told Boston.com. The department declined to provide further comment on the circumstances surrounding Beltran’s arrest.
State records indicate that Beltran was fired after allegedly setting off a handgun while on duty. He also reportedly made sexual remarks to a 16-year-old and assaulted a person aged 14 or older.
Court documents further reveal that Beltran is currently suing the Lawrence Police Department, claiming that the department conducted an unconstitutional search of his phone and used the information obtained as grounds for his firing.
