**What’s the story**

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has confirmed its decision to onboard approximately 650 lateral hires. Their joining, however, was delayed by nearly three months, according to reports from The Times of India.

The company has now begun sending onboarding emails to the selected candidates, with some receiving joining dates scheduled for October. It is important to note that final onboarding will only proceed after successful completion of background verification checks.

**Company statement: Commitment to all job offers**

A TCS spokesperson reaffirmed the company’s commitment to honoring all job offers made to both freshers and experienced professionals. “We look forward to them joining and being a part of TCS,” the spokesperson told TOI.

The delay in onboarding had raised concerns among candidates and industry observers alike, but TCS is moving forward to resolve these issues.

**Policy changes: New bench policy and workforce developments**

Recently, TCS introduced a new bench policy which allows employees a maximum of 35 bench days per year without any project allocation. The company is targeting 225 billed business days per employee annually.

These workforce changes have attracted attention from the Center’s labor and employment ministry, as well as Karnataka’s labor department, reflecting the ongoing scrutiny of employment practices in the tech sector.

**Employee updates: TCS’s headcount and salary increments**

As of June 2025, TCS’s total workforce stood at over six lakh employees. The company rolled out its annual salary increments for most employees, with an average increase ranging from 4.5% to 7%.

The salary revision, effective from September 1, 2025, applies to employees up to grade C3A or equivalent levels. However, senior-level employees within higher bands (C3B, C4, C5) were not included in this round of increments.

TCS continues to navigate talent management and policy updates as it prepares to integrate new hires and support its large employee base.
