Shack Chat: What was your favorite announcement from TGS 2025?

As Tokyo Game Show 2025 winds down, it’s time to reflect on our favorite reveals from an action-packed week of showcases. From Sony’s State of Play to Kojima’s special event, this week brought a plethora of exciting gaming news. Here are some of our team’s top picks—what was your favorite announcement from TGS 2025?

### Forza Horizon 6
**Ozzie Mejia, Senior Scenic Route Taker**
This one feels bittersweet considering some of the tough decisions Microsoft has made around the Forza Motorsport series and Turn 10 Studios. That said, I’m incredibly fascinated by the choice to set Forza Horizon 6 in Japan. I haven’t had many opportunities to visit Japan myself—it’s an expensive trip—so I’m more than happy to live vicariously through this game’s stunning portrayal of the country.

### Rhythm Doctor Release Date
**Asif Khan, Purveyor of Fine Electronic Music**
Sometimes really cool indie games fly under the radar, and that was definitely the case with *Rhythm Doctor*. This delightful rhythm game, built around just one button and a psychedelic art style, was a standout amidst the bigger AAA announcements in the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2025 Broadcast—which aired at an ungodly hour EST, no less. The release date announcement trailer grabbed my attention, and I’m all in. I’ll likely be playing it on PC, though—my Xbox Series X serves better as a glorified heat shield between my Switch 2 and PS5!

### Wolverine Release Date
**Bill Lavoy, Shackmaps Overlord**
I’m not usually big into superhero games, but *Wolverine* looks like a blast. Insomniac Games has been on a roll, consistently delivering titles that really shine on PlayStation hardware. This one seems set to be another perfect storm for Sony and Insomniac. I’ll be jumping in when it launches in Fall 2026 for sure.

### Saros
**Sam Chandler, Rahul Kohli Stan**
I didn’t play much of *Returnal* when it first came out, but after seeing more of *Saros* at TGS, I’m eager to dive in. I’m not the best when it comes to roguelikes, so I’m hoping my shooter skills will give me an edge. I also love how Housemarque shifted from the cool cyan tones of *Returnal* to the warm, orange hues in *Saros*’ gameplay trailer. Plus, Rahul Kohli is a cool dude, so that’s a definite bonus!

### Ghost Rider Gameplay in Marvel Tokon
**TJ Denzer, Reporting Live from Tokyo Game Show 2025**
I have a bit of an edge this week since I’m actually here at TGS covering the floor—hello from Japan! Arc System Works, Sony, and Marvel allowed us to play *Spider-Man* and *Ghost Rider* in *Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls* for the first time. Spider-Man’s great, but I’ve been a big fan of Robbie Reyes as Ghost Rider since *Midnight Suns*. The game makes him feel incredible—he controls mid-range with his chains and builds a Vengeance gauge to power up his attacks, but if you push too hard, it can burn out. His ultimate move calls in his hellish hot rod to run over opponents with blazing hellfire. Of all the characters so far, Ghost Rider’s fiery, wild style fits me best—I think he’s locked in as one of my mains.

### Forza Horizon Finally Goes to Japan
**Donovan Erskine, Pro Driver**
The idea of *Forza Horizon* heading to Japan felt like one of those video game wishes that was too good to be true. Even with leaks hinting at it, I doubted we’d get to race through Tokyo and Japan’s countryside. I couldn’t be happier to be proven wrong! This is looking like my most-played game in the series once it’s all said and done.

### C. Viper Street Fighter 6 Gameplay Reveal
**Dennis White Jr., Wishes He Looked That Good in a Suit**
We finally got a proper look at C. Viper in action during Capcom’s Special Presentation, and she looks amazing! I was worried they might tone down some of her signature feint options and tools, but with the new parry system built into *Street Fighter 6* by default, they’re embracing her technical playstyle and giving her both new and returning tools to go wild with. With solid range attacks and tricky mix-ups, I can already see her becoming a competitive nightmare. She looks stylish and fun—I’m definitely excited to play her on October 15.

### Demi and the Fractured Dream
**Steve Tyminski, Too Many to Pick Just One**
Picking just one favorite announcement from TGS this year is tough. I was going through the lineup and realized how many games have caught my attention. Getting more of *The Adventure of Elliot* from Square Enix was a treat—the demo was fun and revealed some deeper details. The announcement of the *Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection* caught me by surprise—I hadn’t played these games before, so as a huge Mega Man fan, I’m excited to dive in. Annapurna also showcased *Demi and the Fractured Dream*, which looks right up my alley—a love letter to 3D *Legend of Zelda* games had me sold instantly. Plus, *Chrono Ark* coming to Nintendo Switch is a great surprise—I’d been holding out for this after waiting on the Steam version. Finally, *Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment* revealed more info. I’m not normally into Warriors games, but the Zelda spin-offs usually nail storytelling and push system limits.

To sum it all up: many games at TGS this year grabbed my interest, but if I had to pick one, it’d be *Demi and the Fractured Dream*. It’s a title I didn’t know about before this week, and now I’m eager to learn more and play it as soon as I can. Still, I’m very much looking forward to all the others I mentioned, too—shout out to Mega Man finally getting some love, even if it’s through a collection!
