Authorities in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan, confirmed on Sunday that a mass shooting occurred at a Church of Latter-day Saints, with between six and eight victims reported. Upon arrival, emergency responders also found the church building on fire.
In an official Facebook post, the Grand Blanc Township Police Department stated that there is no threat to the public at this time, while confirming that the church remains actively on fire. Fire crews were deployed alongside police to control the blaze as investigators began assessing the shooting incident.
Local outlet Fox 2 Detroit reported that six to eight people were among the victims, though authorities have not yet provided further details regarding their conditions.
Police instructed individuals at the scene to gather at a reunification pavilion located north of the church. Additionally, a reunification site was established at the Trillium Theater, situated at Holly and McCandlish, for those arriving from outside the immediate area.
Officials also issued a stern warning to residents, urging: **“PLEASE AVOID THE AREA!”** Roads near the church have been closed to allow emergency crews to respond effectively to both the fire and the shooting.
Federal authorities quickly became involved in the investigation. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on social media that she is receiving regular updates on the situation. She confirmed that agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are en route to the scene.
Bondi added in her statement, “Such violence at a place of worship is heartbreaking and chilling.”
Local and federal investigators are expected to coordinate efforts to determine both the cause of the fire and the circumstances leading to the shooting.
Authorities confirmed that The Post reached out to both local and federal officials for comment but noted that details remain limited as the investigation is ongoing.
Emergency personnel continued their efforts late into the night to extinguish the blaze, while medical teams treated victims and arranged for transportation to nearby hospitals. The reunification centers stayed active to assist families and community members seeking information about their loved ones.
Grand Blanc Township residents are advised that further official updates will be issued through police department channels as more facts become available.
The investigation remains active.
