MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines recorded its narrowest trade deficit in six months in August, signaling a positive development for the country’s trade balance. However, this improvement masked emerging signs of weakness in the export sector, particularly as higher American tariffs began to impact exports to the United States.
Filipino exports grew by 4.6 percent to reach $7.1 billion in August. Despite this growth, it was the weakest pace of expansion in eight months, according to the Philippine Statistics authority.
