### What Happened the Day Jimmy Kimmel Got Suspended?
Kimmel appeared on Stephen Colbert’s show on September 30, where he detailed the events surrounding the indefinite suspension of his show.
“Do you want to hear the whole thing?” Kimmel asked Colbert before sharing his story.
“It was around 3 o’clock. We tape our show at 4:30. I’m in my office typing away — as I usually do — when I get a phone call. It’s ABC. They say they want to talk to me,” he explained, describing the call as “unusual.”

### ABC Decided to ‘Take the Show Off the Air’
“As far as I knew, they didn’t even know I was doing a show before this. I have, like, five people who work with me in my office, so the only private place to go was the bathroom,” Kimmel said.
Upon entering the bathroom, he took the call with ABC executives, who told him, “Listen, we want to take the temperature down. We’re concerned about what you’re going to say tonight, and we’ve decided that the best route is to take the show off the air.”

### Audience Members Were in Their Seats When the Show Was Pulled
Kimmel admitted that he was in the middle of his monologue when the news came.
“When the audience booed, that’s what I was doing when they called me,” he recalled. He argued with the network executives, telling them he didn’t think pulling the show was the right move. However, the executives voted and proceeded with the suspension.
After informing his executive producers, Kimmel revealed that audience members were already seated for the taping and had to be sent home.

### The Aftermath: Paparazzi and Family Reactions
Kimmel stayed in his office for a few hours before deciding to leave. “I’m followed by 20 paparazzi cars, TMZ, people jumping in front of me on the way home. We’re just trying to get to the house… There were two helicopters flying over,” he said.
Once home, the family was visibly shaken. His 11-year-old daughter offered to “sell my Labubus,” describing the moment as “very sweet.” Meanwhile, his son responded by getting naked and running around the house.

### Feeling ‘Like in Jail’
In the days following the suspension, Kimmel said he felt “like I was in jail.” Although he was unable to make any public statements, he was busy on numerous phone calls.
The suspension came after Kimmel spoke about Charlie Kirk’s death on September 17. While initially described as “indefinite,” ABC reversed course a few days later and allowed Kimmel’s show to return to the air.
