Maharashtra Registers 1,15,125 New Vehicles During 10-Day Navratri & Dussehra Period, Marking 7.37% Increase

**Maharashtra Sees 7.37% Rise in Vehicle Registrations During Navratri and Dussehra Festive Period**

Mumbai: Maharashtra registered a total of 1,15,125 new vehicles during the 10-day Navratri and Dussehra period this year, marking a 7.37 percent increase compared to 1,07,226 registrations in the corresponding festive window last year.

According to the vehicle registration data from the transport department, between September 22 and October 2, the state recorded 70,381 two-wheelers (excluding mopeds) and 29,909 cars (excluding taxis) among the total registrations.

In comparison, the previous year, registrations for the same festive period, from October 2 to October 12, 2024, stood at 1,07,226 vehicles, including 71,428 two-wheelers and 22,817 cars.

The increase in vehicle registrations is attributed to the recent GST rate cut implemented last month, which has made automobiles more affordable and stimulated demand in the sector, officials noted.

### Regional Highlights

The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) recorded the highest number of vehicle registrations in the state, totaling 13,885 vehicles—7,833 two-wheelers and 4,635 cars. This is an increase from last year when Pune’s RTO saw 13,671 registrations (8,945 bikes and 3,551 cars).

Following Pune, the Pimpri Chinchwad RTO reported 9,194 registrations (4,891 two-wheelers and 3,608 cars), up from 7,793 last year (4,608 bikes and 2,456 cars).

### Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) Sees Slight Dip

Contrary to the overall state trend, Mumbai and its Metropolitan Region (which includes Thane, Kalyan, and Greater Mumbai) recorded a slight decline in vehicle registrations, with 29,254 registrations this year compared to 30,688 during the same period in 2024.

In Greater Mumbai alone, 12,216 vehicles were registered, marginally down from 12,303 last year.

Within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Thane RTO reported 4,112 registrations (2,383 two-wheelers and 985 cars), while Kalyan RTO recorded 3,904 registrations (2,584 two-wheelers and 1,020 cars). Last year, these figures stood at 4,399 and 3,839, respectively.

In Mumbai city, vehicle registrations were led by the Wadala RTO, responsible for the entire eastern suburbs, with 3,668 registrations. It was followed by Tardeo RTO (3,192), Borivali RTO (2,824), and Andheri RTO (2,532).

– Tardeo RTO has jurisdiction over the island city.
– Andheri RTO covers the area from Bandra to Jogeshwari.
– Borivali RTO oversees the region from Goregaon to Dahisar.

### Vehicle Population Overview

Maharashtra’s total vehicle population has now surpassed 4.5 crore. Meanwhile, Mumbai city itself, grappling with mounting traffic congestion and air pollution, crossed the 50-lakh vehicle mark earlier this year.
