Dhruv Jurel brought up his maiden century in Test cricket on Day 2 of the opening Test against the West Indies held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. Jurel’s opportunity came as India’s first-choice wicket-keeper in Tests, Rishabh Pant, was sidelined due to injury.

**A Fine Knock Under Pressure**

Chasing a modest first-innings total of 162 by the West Indies, India was 188 for 3 when Jurel walked out to bat. He quickly settled in and partnered with fellow centurion KL Rahul, helping India cross the 200-run mark before Rahul’s dismissal. Following this, Jurel forged another formidable partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, with the pair putting together a crucial century stand.

Jurel reached his hundred during the final session, marking a significant milestone early in his Test career.

**Promising Career Stats**

This innings was Jurel’s second score above 50 in six Test matches. Previously, he had played an impressive 90-run knock against England in Ranchi last year. With this century, Jurel has accumulated over 350 runs in nine Test innings, maintaining an average above 37.

In first-class cricket overall, this marks Jurel’s third century and 13 half-centuries, with a total of more than 1,800 runs at an average close to 49.

Dhruv Jurel’s maiden Test hundred is a promising sign for India’s batting depth, especially in the absence of established players like Rishabh Pant.
