**Raebareli Lynching: Dalit Man Hariom Paswan Beaten to Death Over False Accusation**
In a tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli on October 3, a Dalit man named Hariom Paswan was lynched by a mob. Initially accused of stealing a drone, multiple videos surfaced later showing villagers brutally thrashing him. During the assault, Hariom was heard crying out the name of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The mob allegedly chanted, “We are Baba’s men,” before beating him to death.
Rahul Gandhi reached out to the victim’s family three times on Sunday night, offering support and promising that Congress leaders would meet them in person. “The Congress family stands with you,” Rahul reportedly told Hariom’s father, Gangadeen Paswan.
The victim’s wife, Pinky, demanded justice. She stated, “My husband was beaten mercilessly. His killers should be punished the same way.”
Congress state president Ajay Rai visited the family in Fatehpur and called the incident a reflection of “Baba’s Jungle Raj.” Rai accused the ruling party of protecting mobs while the police failed to act promptly. He said, “The boy was beaten just for taking Rahul Gandhi’s name,” adding that Congress workers would stand by the family until justice is served.
Following the incident, police arrested five accused individuals: Vaibhav Singh, Vipin Maurya, Vijay Kumar, Sahdev, and Suresh Kumar. Additionally, three policemen have been suspended for negligence, and the local station officer has been transferred.
The victim’s family has demanded ₹1 crore in compensation along with a government job as part of justice for Hariom.
This case has sparked widespread outrage across Uttar Pradesh, reigniting debates on mob violence and political accountability in the state. The incident continues to draw attention to the urgent need for law enforcement reforms to prevent such tragedies in the future.
