**Huawei Announces New Supercomputers and AI Chips to Challenge NVIDIA**

Huawei has unveiled plans for new iterations of its SuperPoD AI clusters, featuring high-speed interconnects for its chips. According to the company’s vice chairman, Eric Xu, the Atlas 950 SuperPoD will debut in Q4 2026, supporting an impressive 8,192 Ascend chips. Its successor, the Atlas 960, will follow in Q4 2027 with a staggering 15,488 Ascend chips. Both SuperPoDs aim to deliver top-tier performance across several critical metrics, including the number of NPUs, total computing power, memory capacity, and interconnect bandwidth.

### SuperClusters: Large-Scale Computing Powerhouses

In addition to the SuperPoDs, Huawei introduced two large-scale computing clusters: the Atlas 950 SuperCluster and the Atlas 960 SuperCluster. The Atlas 950 SuperCluster will feature over 500,000 Ascend processors, while the Atlas 960 SuperCluster will surpass the one million processor mark. These clusters are composed of multiple Huawei SuperPoDs and are designed to outperform all other computing clusters currently available in the market.

Eric Xu emphasized that these powerful SuperPoDs and SuperClusters will enable Huawei to deliver massive computing power, accelerating advancements in artificial intelligence.

### Ascend AI Chips: Direct Competition for NVIDIA

Huawei also revealed plans to launch four new Ascend AI chips over the next three years, signaling a direct challenge to NVIDIA’s dominance in the AI chip market. The upcoming Ascend 950 chip will incorporate Huawei’s own high-bandwidth memory technology, overcoming a significant technological hurdle for China.

This development highlights Huawei’s long-term vision and determination to compete with global technology giants in the semiconductor industry.

### Breakthrough in High-Bandwidth Memory Production

Notably, Huawei announced that it now possesses its own high-bandwidth memory technology—a field currently dominated by South Korea’s SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics. The company plans to maintain a one-year release cycle for its AI chips, aiming to double compute power with each new iteration.

Huawei’s announcement comes at a strategically significant time, just ahead of an upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, reflecting the high stakes of technological competition between the two nations.
